Mark James Lamberti (63)

Chief Executive Officer - B.Com. M.B.A. (Wits) P.P.L. (Harvard) CD (SA)

Mark was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Imperial on 1 March 2014.

From 1st June 2008 until 15th January 2014 Mark was the Chief Executive Officer and a major shareholder of Transaction Capital Limited. He served as its non-executive Chairman until the 4th March 2014 when he resigned to devote his attention fully to Imperial Holdings Limited.

For the same reason on the 10th April 2014, he resigned as non-executive Chairman of the Board of Massmart Holdings Limited, a position he assumed on the 1st July 2007 after serving for almost 19 years as founder, architect, Chief Executive Officer and major shareholder.

Since his early 30’s he has served as an executive and non-executive on the boards of various public companies including Wooltru, Primedia, Datatec, Telkom and Altron.

Mark currently serves as an executive committee member and director of Business Leadership South Africa and is a Trustee and Executive Committee member of the National Education Collaborative Trust, which is a government, business, labour and civil society initiative to support the National Development Plan and the Education Sector Plan.

His achievements have been widely acknowledged throughout his career.  In 2001 he was the winner of the Ernst & Young South Africa’s Best Entrepreneur Award and the Institute of Marketing Management’s Marketer of the Year Award.  In 2004 he was named the Italian-South African Businessman of the Year by the Italian South African Chamber of Commerce.  In 2012 he received the prestigious Wits Business School Management Excellence Award for demonstrating ethical leadership, managerial excellence and societal relevance throughout a distinguished career.  In 2013 he was designated a Chartered Director, CD(SA), by the Institute of Directors on the basis of his public record and established status as a director.




Osman Suluman Arbee (54)

BAcc, CA(SA), HDip Tax

Osman is the Group Chief Financial Officer. He is a Non-Executive Director of Distribution and Warehousing Network (DAWN) Limited. He joined the group and the executive committee in September 2004, Was appointed to the board in 2007  and as a Group Financial Director in July 2013.




Mohammed Akoojee (34)

BAcc(Hons in Accounting)CA(SA), CFA

Mohammed is the executive responsible for investor relations and head of strategy for the group. He joined the group in 2009, having previously worked at Nedbank Securities as an investment analyst and at Investec in the corporate finance division. He is also a director of Distribution and Warehousing Network (DAWN) Limited and Ukhamba Holdings (Pty) Limited. He was appointed to the executive committee in January 2011 and to the board in November 2013.




Manuel Pereira de Canha (63)


Manny is the chief executive of Associated Motor Holdings, responsible for the distribution retail and allied services businesses. He joined the group in 1995. He was appointed to the board in November 2002. 




Philip Michaux (54)


Philip is the chief executive officer of the Automotive Retail and Car Rental divisions. He joined the group in 1995 as a result of IMPERIAL acquiring Saficon, Philip was appointed the chief executive officer of the Automotive Retail division in 2006 and has taken on the chief executive officer function for Car Rental in 2013. He was appointed to the executive committee in October 2011. Appointed to the board on 6 May 2014.




Gerhard Wessel Riemann (67)


Gerhard is the chief executive of IMPERIAL Logistics International in Germany and is responsible for international logistics operations. He joined the group and the board in January 2000.




Jurie Strydom (39)

BBus Sc, FIA, CFA, MBA

Jurie is the chief executive of the Regent Insurance group which houses the insurance operations of IMPERIAL. Jurie joined the group in 2007 as chief actuary of Regent Life and was appointed to the Regent board in the same year. He previously held positions in Sanlam and as managing director of Alexander Forbes Life. Jurie was appointed to the executive committee in February 2012 and to the board in November 2013.




Marius Swanepoel (52)

B Acc (Hons)

Marius is the chief executive of IMPERIAL Logistics in Africa. He joined the group in 1994 as financial director of Highway Carriers and was appointed as chief executive of IMPERIAL Logistics in Africa in October 2005. He was appointed to the executive committee in May 2007 and to the board in November 2009.

Berenice is the executive responsible for risk, transformation and people development. She joined the group in 2008 and was appointed to the executive committee in June 2009.

Imperial eyes Africa, South America

OUTGOING Imperial Holdings CEO Hubert Brody says the group is "as entrepreneurial as ever" and has significant opportunities to grow in developing markets, including South America and Africa outside South Africa.

In Mr Brody’s last results presentation as CEO on Wednesday — before Massmart and Transaction Capital nonexecutive chairman Mark Lamberti takes over next week — he announced an acquisition in Nigeria, and the group’s entry into South America.

Imperial first-half profit increases
